Section II

How to measure

01

Borrow a ring that fits

Choose one already worn on the finger you are sizing. Pinkies, ring fingers, and middle fingers can differ by several sizes — be specific about which.

02

Measure the inside

With a ruler, measure the inside diameter of the ring across its widest point. Compare the result, in millimetres, against the diameter column in the chart above.

03

Round up, not down

If you land between two sizes, choose the larger of the two. A ring needs to clear the knuckle. We can always bring a size down — bringing one up is harder.

04

Or, request a sizer

If you do not have a ring on hand, we will post a complimentary plastic sizer anywhere in Australia. Wear it for a day to see how it lives on the hand.

Alternative method

Measure with string

No ring to borrow? A length of string, dental floss or a thin paper strip works just as well. Follow the three steps below, then read the measurement against a ruler.

01

Wrap

Loop a piece of string or thin paper strip around the base of your finger. Snug, not tight.

02

Mark

Where the string overlaps, mark the spot with a pen.

03

Measure

Lay the marked string flat against a ruler and read the length in millimetres.

The length you read is your finger's circumference — match it to the circumference column in the chart above.

Section III

A few quiet tips

Measure at day's end

Fingers swell slightly through the day. Late afternoon or evening readings are most reliable. Avoid measuring straight after exercise or a flight.

Warm fingers, not cold

Cold reduces finger size by up to half a size. Measure in a warm room with hands at rest, never first thing in the morning.

Measure three times

Take three readings and average them. Fingers vary by a quarter size over the course of an hour — a single reading is rarely accurate.

Knuckle matters most

If your knuckle is larger than the base of your finger, size to the knuckle and ask us about a hidden sizer bead so the ring rests neatly.

Avoid paper strips

Paper and string stretch, twist, and slip. The diameter of a ring you already wear is the most accurate measurement you can take at home.

Consider the band

Wider bands fit more snugly than narrow ones. If your design is six millimetres or wider, consider going up a quarter to a half size.

Section IV

Frequently asked

Can I order a ring in a size that isn't on the chart?

Almost always, yes. Most bonté30 styles are made to order, so we can craft your ring in the exact size you need — including quarter and half sizes, or sizes outside the standard range. Add a note at checkout with your size, or email contact@bonte30.com with your order number after purchase.

Why are some international sizes blank?

Each country issues sizes at different increments, so some half-steps simply do not have a matching number in another standard. We follow the Blue Nile International Ring Size Conversion chart — the empty cells mirror that source. When in doubt, match the inside diameter in millimetres.

Which is my dominant finger?

Your ring finger on your dominant hand is usually slightly larger than the same finger on your non-dominant hand. Always measure the exact finger your ring will live on.

What if my size falls between two on the chart?

Round up to the larger size. Rings should pass comfortably over the knuckle. A ring that is slightly loose is far easier to live with than one that is too tight.

Can I order a ring sizer?

Yes. We post a complimentary plastic ring sizer anywhere in Australia. Request one at contact@bonte30.com and we will dispatch it the same business day.
